STOP TRYING TO BE INTERESTING

Rebels are just as boring as sheep

Why?

Predictable.

The problem with trying to make interesting choices, stand out from the crowd, come across as dangerous, etc

Is you don’t get to decide if you’re interesting

The audience does

Therefore you are chasing a result which is out of your control, which means you’re giving away your power as an artist

So you’ve lost from the start

Amateurs game

(A reminder here that there is a whole group of people out there who adamantly argue that heath was terrible as the joker.)

Professional actors who understand that no job is coming to save them…

They take their power back by doing what is truly interesting…

Being present.

There’s a reason why there are so many cliche stories about Oscar winners being upstaged by a bird that landed on the stage in Central Park

Or a mouse that ran a cross the stage on the west end

Or a moth that landed on their shoulder on set…

Animals are present

And present equals aliveness

(the opposite of predictable)

Stop trying to control how people see you

Build a system that prioritises presence above everything else

It makes better art

And its sustainable
