START DATING CASTING DIRECTORS

For professional actors

Theres a real turning point which occurs when they finally accept that no job is coming to save them

Because they stop trying to control how casting directors see them

(Lets use Australia as an example)

There are 80+ casting directors - And If we apply Pareto principle that means - roughly speaking - 16 of them are casting 80% of the professional work

So we want to start dating those 16 casting directors

Why do I use the word “date”

Because we all know how fucking exhausting it is when you go on a date and the other person tries to control how you see them - Presenting a fake image of who they are rather than letting us see who they actually are so we can figure out if there’s an aligned match

So instead of desperately trying to please all 16

We want to go on vulnerable dates

Now, If you’re noticing that you still feel pressure around casting directors

It’s likely because you are struggling to accept that which you cannot control

This is a really important point

The parts of yourself that you’re most wanting to hide from the industry…

Are the parts that are most likely going to result in better work

So Stop being selfish

Casting directors are not gatekeepers

They need actors more than any one else

Their jobs puts them in an incredibly vulnerable position

And, just like you, they want to contribute to great stories to society

So give them the opportunity to see the real you

And yes, sometimes that means sacrificing short terms results for the long term relationship

Stop trying to “book a role” or “book a room”

Instead

Do the real generous thing as professional artist

Go on vulnerable dates with casting directors

If you do that

You’ll find your matches

Better to have 2 or 3 healthy vulnerable relationships

Than 16 exhaustively fake ones

Hope this helps
